12 January 2012,
Hello my Brothers and Sisters. I hope that all of you and your families have enjoyed
a blessed holiday season. The time is now for us to get back to business at
hand. The need is for us to continue the pressure to get our National and State
political leaders to support the House Resolutions. Namely the ones required for
the United States Postal Service to operate at its present level of service.
The contentions in the political arena both Nationally and State wide are a constant
threat to the USPS. The 21st Century Postal Reform Act of 2011(S.1789) if passed
would prove to be detrimental to the USPS. We need to contact our Senators ASAP to
voice our opposition to this bill.
The negotiation for the new contract will be an uphill battle considering the
economic climate of our Nation. Hopefully there will be an agreement soon
between the NALC and the USPS. The nonsense of filming carriers while they
performing their duties in selected delivery units is waste of money and time.
I hope we will continue our efforts to support COLCPE. The contributions are
needed now more than ever to try and save our USPS.
In Solidarity

Hello my Brothers and Sisters.
2 October 2011
We have gone through a H-O-T summer and fall is now upon us, the cooler weather is welcome. We have gone through a season
of turbulent times for the United States Postal Service. Our friends in the United States Senate and Congress are
becoming fewer in numbers. Certain segments of both Congress and the Senate are on a mission to try and destroy our way
of living through union busting tactics.
The Postmaster General is working for legislation to void the layoff protection provisions in postal labor unions. He
also has asked for the closure of offices and the reduction of mail delivery from six-days to five-days. The elimination
of Saturday's delivery is not the way to Save the United States Postal Service. Last month our South Carolina State
Letter Carriers Association sent eleven lobbyist to Washington, D.C. Our mission,to try and persuade our Representatives
and Senators to co-sponsor H.R. 1351 and H.R. 137.
September 27,2011 we sponsored rallies at our Congressmen's District Offices throughout the state.A nationwide
rally was held simultaneous at every Congressman office thanking the ones who co-sponsored H.R. 1351 and H.R. 137 and
asking for co-sponsoring from the ones who have failed to support the previous mention H.R.'s. The outpouring of people
for this event was commendable. Members of the NALC and participants from the APWU, NPMH, and the NRLCA were in attendance.
My only disappointment was the low attendance of my own branch. We must learn to show solidarity. We need our jobs
and not the unemployment lines. Remember COLCPE is still a priority for congressional support.

Hello my Brothers and Sisters
I
want to congratulate Charleston Branch # 3902 for a most hospitable
State Convention held at Charleston.SC 5-18-11 thru 5-21-11.
We thank Mr. Lew Drass (Director of City Delivery) and our own NBA Judy Willoughby and her staff for their attendance.
Congratulations
are in order for all of the newly elected state officers. We hope their
leadership abilities will enhance the entire membership.
Let
us not forget about Joint Alternate Route Adjustment Process (JARAP)
2011 and the Flat Sequencing System (FSS) Route Adjustment.
Important
information was distributed during the convention concerning JARAP to
better inform carriers during the route adjustments. The journey
ahead
will not be easy, the upcoming negotiation of our contract will be of
great concern.Everyone needs to continue to call.preferably write
(postage)
to their Congressman asking them to support H.R.'s 1351, 137, and 1262.
Our Congressmen here in South Carolina are not supportive
of these resolutions as of now.
I would like to thank all of our carriers for their hard work during the Food Drive collection held on May 14,2011.
The
need for total involvement by everyone to contribute for COLCPE is
still a necessity. I am sure most of you love your job, enjoy the
compensation
other fringe benefits.
Let us remain united in our efforts to ensure the United States Postal Service remain as we know it today.

Hello my Brothers and Sisters,
We have gone through another year of struggles but we survived. I hope the holiday season was a joyous one for all of you and your families.
Numerous changes occurred in the United States Senate and Congress. We have lost some of our allies in the political arena during the last
election. It is now time for us to continue our efforts to try and save the United States Postal Service and our jobs. More importantly our Six-Day
delivery system for our worthy and loyal patrons. We have experience the demise of a few of our members of the National Letter Carriers Assoc-
iation just doing their jobs. Let us remember them and always be aware of our surroundings.
The road ahead will not be easy ,we must maintain our fight to win the battle. A start towards that would be to get more of our members to
sign up to become E -Activists and most of all participate in COLPE. South Carolina is always low in contributions for COLCPE.

Hello My Brothers and Sisters of the SCSALC,
I hope you all had an enjoyable Veterans Day. Please remember our Veterans not only on November 11th but every day.
Their contributions and devotion to duty enable us to enjoy a free society. The elections for Federal,State and Local are
now over. Our District U.S. Representative (The Honorable Joe Wilson) remain the same. I hope he will continue to
support the United States Postal Service and the National Association of Letter Carriers. We must remain vigilant in our
quest to keep the Six-Day Delivery system in tact, The constant call for members to organize and urge contributions for
Committee on Letter Carrier Political Education(COLCPE) is still necessary on our agenda. Fall training held on last
weekend(Nov 5th&6th)gave members present helpful information that will be passed on to their respected Branch members.
Please have an enjoyable Thanksgiving with your family and friends and remember safety.

Hello my Brothers and Sister of SCSALC,
I hope all of you and your families are enjoying a wonderful summer thus far. Just think, we are over one third
of the way through this season. Please take your breaks and drink plenty of fluids (water/gatorade). We have had
constant harrassment this summer over the threat of going to Five-Day Delivery. But do not give in. Remember
the delivery schedule can not be changed unless approved by Congress. Write/Call your congressmen and ask
them to support H.R. 173. We do not have any millionaires employed with the USPS, therefore we need our jobs.
A Five-Day Delivery schedule would cost some of our brothers and sisters their jobs and jeopardize the future of
the USPS. Remember we are all in this together. Survival is a must!

Richard Jones, CDL2

Hello my Brothers and Sisters,
Our State Convention held in Myrtle Beach, SC on last month was label another success. We thank the members of
Branch 4645 and the staff of Crown Reef Resort for their hard work to assure a flawless Convention. We received a lot
of useful training information ,also an abundance of political updates was presented. There was precise information given
concerning the hurdles being faced by the United States Postal Service. The social times shared by all was remarkable.
The five-day delivery dilemma is still prevalent,it should enhance our stance to remain united. We must continue to strive
for the continuance of six-day delivery to our customers. Saturday deliveries is very important for some of our prime business
customers and our senior citizens.
I wish all my Brothers/Sisters and their families a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day. Let us not forget about our veterans
who gave their lives and others who served their country to enable us to enjoy our freedom in the United States of America.

March 16, 2010
Hello Brothers and Sisters,
We are almost one quarter of the way through the year of 2010 and what a year thus far. We have
endured a cold winter and some unusual white stuff(snow) for South Carolina.
The climate for the United States Postal Service have also been quite stormy. The Postal Service
even put together a 90 minute briefing on five-day a-week delivery and floated copies of it around
Capitol HIll to the gullible. We have the support of our President Obama requiring the continuation of
the six-day delivery by the Postal Service. We must maintain our vigilance to assure the United States
Postal Service remain as a viable organization.
Call your Senators and Congressman and tell them that you want them to support the continuation of
six day delivery by the U.S. Postal Service.
In conclusion, lets prepare for a good State Convention next month at Myrtle Beach. If you are unable to attend,
arm your delegate(s) with some good ideas that can be shared by all in attendance. See you at the
Beach.

Richard (Dick) Jones

December 9, 2009
Where have the Year 2009 gone? We have struggled with a falthering economy, nagging wars, and the
critical issue of Healthcare Reform. The United States Postal Service also faced the turbulence of a financial
storm just to ensure its survival. Let us continue to work with the Modified Interim Alternate Route Adjustment
Process (MIARAP). Remember, this is to help us gain territory, thereby we will continue to to enjoy future
employment.
Let us remember our men and women of the United States Armed Forces during this holiday season.
To all my brothers and sister of the SCSALC and their families, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year!

I would like to thank our State President Emily Lane and the members of South Carolina State Association of
Letter Carriers for appointing me as your Congressional District Liaison for District 2. I will do my absolute best
in keeping the members of the district informed about congressional issues that pertain to our membership. I
will also ensure that the interest and concerns of the branches within my district are communicated to the Honorable
Joe Wilson's office.
On May 28 2009, I went to Congressman Joe Wilson's office in West Columbia. I just wanted to introduce
myself and make sure that his office was aware that letter carriers are active constituents of his district. I had the
privilege of meeting the congressman, his chief of staff, and his counsel. I thanked Congressman Joe Wilson for
his support of Bill H.R.22. I believe he understands the importance of this bill to letter carriers.
Please take time to become an E-Activist. You can sign up at the home page of the NALC Website.
