Hello Everyone,

It's me again Felton L. Boston, CDL District 5. Here I am again thinking about what
I wanted to write about. Well here it is (FAILURE!).
As I thought about all the time spent trying to get our save the USPS message out, failure was
not an option. However as I think about cohesiveness. How we as union members along
with our sister members on the clerk and rural carrier craft side fail to come together in numbers.
I feel it necessary to ask, How have we failed or how is it we are failing to rally the troops?.

Now before I go any further just let me say I do realize there are those who do put forth the effort to support their respective unions. However the majority just don't! We don't come to monthly
meetings, support COLCP, and we won't so much as sign our name to a letter that supports
the union or protects our jobs.

We make a honest effort here in district 5 to educate our brothers and sisters of political policy that is taking place that can and will have an effect on our way of life.
The nonchalant attitude that the majority of our members show, should be of concern to those
of us in any form of a leadership role. I know this is not new and certainly not limited to
District 5, for I have seen it up close for the past few years.

No, I don't have the answer but like districts all over the country we have the problem.
My concern is that we can not fail to address this issue with all that we will face in the future.
We need more than just dues paying members, we need active participation from members.

In closing I would hope this letter would inspire us to come together and again look for ways to convince
our members, to realize the important of them being active and participating members.

Felton Boston

District 5 Rep.

Fellow Brothers & Sisters

I am as frustrated as a hornet!  This past month I have seen more and more changes occur at our local Post Offices.
Not good changes may I add. For example, all stamp vending machines have been removed and some Post Offices are now
closing at Noon during the week. Then today, I am in the vestibule of the Post Office waiting in line to mail something for a
customer and I noticed there is a woman walking in circles searching for something.  I ask if there was something I could help
her with? She replied, "I am looking for Change of Address Forms".  I begin to look with her.  I then ask our clerk if there were
any C.O.A.'s behind the counter?   The clerk replied, "no" and she said that all change of addresses are to be done over the
Internet now. The woman (customer) then asked what if you do not have Internet service? No-reply from the clerk. I went to my
truck and grabbed one for her. However, to myself I am thinking WHAT THE H---!!!  During these times of economic hardship for
most Americans, does the Post Office capitalize on this? No!!  We make it harder for our customers.  We make them use pay
by phone services and force them to use the Internet, which most have forgone since it is considered a luxury. Let us make it
very inconvenient for our customers so they can think maybe by bringing in some competition, we as customers can get service
back.
I am asking all carriers to start e-mailing, writing, and/or calling who ever to let our voices be heard. We are not going to let
Management destroy our integrity, our hard work, and our good name. We need to let people know what is going on. I need your
help!!

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

Time is flying by. It is hard for me to believe that it has been over 60 days since we were all together in Greenville. Thank you
District Five for electing me for another term. I cannot speak for all, but I received a lot of valuable information at the convention. As
the temporary shop steward in Rock Hill, I found the beginner shop steward class and the J-cam class very rewarding.
Judy and Jeff, Thank you.

As temporary shop steward, I have a newfound appreciation for our shop stewards. Every day is a new violation. What is up
with these supervisors?  Can they NOT read?  Or, do they just choose to ignore?

Speaking on behalf of District 5, we have several up hill battles in front of us. I continue to nag at Representative John Spratt and
Senator Lindsey Graham for support on the HR 22 as well as the Employee Free Choice Act. If there is anyone in District 5 reading this,
I sure hope you can write, call,or email our representatives to help me with this fight.

Look forward to seeing all in September.

Sincerely,
Debbie Clarkson, CDL District 5
