January 2025

Good day to all my sisters and brothers of the South Carolina Letter Carriers Association. I hope you and all your family members enjoyed the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. We have entered into the new year on a sad note. The passing of our oldest living USA President, Mr. James Carter. January 9th was declared a day of mourning for him. We are rapidly approaching the inauguration of President elect Donald Trump. There will be changes to come as he enters to our political system. We must remain dedicated towards our jobs. The weather conditions is already changed thereby causing increased safety hazards. Please beware of your surroundings and dress for the weather. The passage of the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R.82) will prove to be beneficial for eligible carriers. There is still a need for improvements in the delivery of our mail. Our reliability of delivery times is on the decline. The initial training of our new carriers must continue to be enhanced. The emphasis on safety need constant attention. Always wear your seat belt while driving.

December 2025

Season’s Greetings to all members of the South Carolina State Letter Carriers Union. As another year ends, we recognize that many changes have taken place throughout our organization and our work.

We continue to serve communities across the country as part of the United States Postal Service. From time to time, discussions arise about possible changes to how the postal system is managed, including ideas related to privatization. Members who wish to share their views can contact their local and national elected officials to stay involved in these conversations.

Many people, including older adults, rely on the USPS for receiving medications and other important items. Our work remains an important part of their daily lives.

Our next collective bargaining negotiations are expected to begin in about two months. This process helps establish the terms of our next union contract, and it is a routine and necessary part of how our workplace agreements are updated.

The new JCAM, effective December 2025, is now available for anyone who would like to review it.

As we continue delivering holiday packages, cards, and letters, we thank all carriers for their dedication and consistent service during this busy season.

I extend my warmest wishes to you and your families for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

As always, please stay aware of your surroundings during your workday. This time of year can bring increased safety concerns in many areas. Please remember to wear your seatbelt and take steps to protect your well-being.

In solidarity,
Richard Jones

Hello to all members of the South Carolina State Letter Carolina Association.

As we enter the peak of the summer season, I encourage everyone to remain mindful of the extreme heat and take the necessary precautions to stay safe. Hydration and regular breaks are essential during this time of the year.

Recently, I have observed the introduction of the Next Generation Delivery Vehicles (NGDV)on our streets. These new vehicles are equipped with air conditioning, representing a significant improvement in working conditions and should help enhance comfort and safety during the hot summer months.

At the national level, there continues to be ongoing discussion surrounding the future of the United States Postal Service. Topics such as potential privatization and operational changes are still being debated. Many in our industry remain concerned about how much changes could impact service liability, affordability, and access particularly for rural communities that depend heavily on USPS services.

In addition, broader economic pressures continue to affect both the Postal Service and its workforce. These challenges reinforce the importance of staying informed and engaged as changes develop.

Looking forward to the 74th Biennial National Convention, in Los Angeles California. I encourage everyone who plan to attend take full advantage of this experience. For those traveling please plan accordingly and be aware of potential airline delays. Some carriers, namely Southwest and Delta, may offer discounted fares.

Finally, I would like to emphasize the importance of supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). At this time, only one branch from South Carolina-Branch 1871(Anderson)-has been recognized, with a contribution of $223.00. While we commend their effort and encourage greater participation across all branches to strengthen our collective impact in supporting this important cause.

In closing, let’s work together to stay safe and informed to continue supporting one another.
